Hello, and welcome to the third episode of Let's Talk Claremont. It is Thursday, April 10, and we've got some stuff to get into. So let's just get it started. Ohio senate bill one was signed into law. We talked about this in our very first episode, but this had to do with colleges and eliminating DEI programs and requiring things like civic courses. So you can go back to the first episode to hear a little bit more about that, but that Mike, governor DeWine signed that into law. So I think that's I think that's a good thing. There's a a house bill 39 that I thought was interesting, and it has to do with tax deductions for overtime wages. So if you work overtime, and you qualify for these deductions, you can get a little bit of a tax break. And, you know, I think I've worked overtime hours before, and and it would have been great to deduct those from my taxes.
But like any tax cut, this is gonna reduce revenue. So, you know, you take the good with the bad, I suppose. There's also Senate Bill 56. Now this one has to do with kind of restructuring the marijuana laws in Ohio since it's now legal for adult use. It's creating a standardized structure for licensing. It introduces level one, two, and three for adult use cultivators, and each of those levels have different square footage requirements. I I think it's a little odd that you have to break them out like that, but, you know, it's what it's what they're doing. And I think this is important especially for for towns and municipalities.
It's giving local control over zoning for cannabis facilities. So your local town can regulate or prohibit cannabis businesses if they want to. I I also think this is pretty good. It it has a expungement provision. So if you were convicted, with possession, you can apply for automatic record expungement, and that means the courts erase all the records, delete index references, and it's treated as if the conviction never occurred, which, you know, say what you want about, whether or not you think marijuana should be legal, if it is legal, and you were put in jail for possession or you have a record because of it, it's probably a good thing that you don't anymore.
And then there's some professional licensing reforms, and some hemp regulation updates. But overall, it seems like what this is doing is it's just consolidating consolidating the the laws around marijuana, which is probably a good thing. You want nice clear laws around stuff. And then we have a pry Ohio primary election coming up on May 6, and the polls are gonna open 06:30AM, and they'll be open till, 07:30PM. And we're gonna get into this in an app we'll get into the a lot more about what's on the ballot and and, you know, what you should be looking at as it gets closer to May 6. But I thought it'd be good to bring up the statewide Ohio issue two, which is a local public infrastructure bond amendment.
So this is gonna let the state issue bonds, for public infrastructure projects. And this is things like roads, bridges, water and wastewater systems, storm, sanitary management facilities, all of that stuff. And it's a funding cap of 2 to 2,500,000,000.0 over ten years with annual limits of 250,000,000. Now it won't immediately raise anybody's taxes, but, you know, to pay back these these bonds in the future, it may. So as we get closer to May 6, we'll talk more about that, but I thought it would be good to to mention it, as we come up to May 6. For the county, it seems like things were pretty quiet except, of course, the Ohio River is spilling over its banks, which is not particularly good and it's impacting a lot of people in the county.
The floodwaters look like they're they're receding, and everybody's still kind of assessing the damage. But I thought I'd just go through, what's happening with that and, you know, if you wanna donate and help these people, you know, where you can do that. So the American Red Red Cross has established a shelter in the New Richmond Exempted Village School District office, and that is located at, 1135 Bethel, New Richmond Road. And so if you're a displaced resident, they've got a shelter there for you. Connect Clermont. They are accepting financial contribute contributions to support local residents impacted by the flooding.
And you can send either cash or checks to Connect Clermont at 2400 Clermont Center Drive, Suite 100, Batavia, Ohio 45103. And let me read that again just in case. It's connect Claremont at 2400 Claremont Center Drive, Suite 100, Batavia, Ohio 45103. The First Baptist Church of New Richmond, and that's on two thirteen Western Avenue. They are collecting cleaning supplies and personal items for affected residents. This is things like mops and buckets and toothpaste, toothbrushes, stuff like that. And let's see here. The New Richmond Volunteer, Coordination.
So if you're interested in volunteering to help, to help the recovery, efforts, you can contact the volunteer coordination line, and then here's the phone number. It's (513) 735-8500. 5 1 3 7 3 5 8 5 0 0. And you wanna do that because you we, you know, wanna make sure everybody the the efforts to help people who've been affected by these floods are organized, so there's not just a bunch of people going down there and, causing confusion. So if you wanna volunteer, give that line a call, and I'm sure they'll tell you where you can help. If you are a resident and you need immediate help, you can call (513) 735-8500, or you can call (513) 553-4146 11.
And either one of those phone numbers, it seems like you'll be able to request aid or information on resources that can help you get back on your feet. And this is probably gonna be important for people down there too, utility reconnection. So if your home or business has been turned off because of the flooding, you need to get inspections, before gas or electric can be restored. So to schedule an an inspection, you have to submit a permit, and you can submit that at permit central at claremont county ohio dot gov, or you can call per you can call, Permit Central at (513) 732-7213, and that's option 9. So for anybody who was affected by that flooding, obviously, our prayers go out to them. We hope that, you know, they can get they can get everything back on track as the waters roll back into the Ohio.
Everywhere outside of the flooding, things seems pretty quiet. I didn't find any kinda crazy news. So, with that said, I'll just remind you that we do have a value for value model. And like I always say, money is great, and we're gonna find ways for people to donate, but, information is better, at least right now. Just tell us what what's going on in in your neck of the woods, what we should be talking about, what we should be paying attention to, and and we'll start looking into that and letting everybody in Clermont County know. And you can get us at info@let'stalkclermont.com.
Info at let's talk clermont dot com. Alright. So for our interview today, we talked with Tara Martin. She's the owner of Well on Wheels, and that's a a Christian bookmobile. It's pretty much like a a a mobile library, and it's a truck and it goes around. And I really enjoyed our conversation. I think I think we talked about a lot of interesting things. So I hope you stick around for that. Alright. Well, we're recording.
[00:09:07] Unknown:
Thanks so much for meeting me. Thank you for having me. Yeah. No worries. I I know it's a rainy day, but, you know, still a good day, I suppose. Yes. Absolutely. So, let's start out with who you are and what you do. Tara Martin.
[00:09:22] Unknown:
I have Well on Wheels library. It is a local Christian bookmobile. And what we do is travel throughout Clermont County and surrounding areas, and we have, shelves full of Christian material, fiction, nonfiction, kids, bibles, movies, CDs, everything. And we loan them out or they can keep them. Okay. We have a regular system. We have it all cataloged, just like a regular library. We can check things out.
[00:09:53] Unknown:
So that's what we do. So how did you get I'm sorry. How did you get the idea to, to start this? And when did you start this? Four years ago. Okay.
[00:10:01] Unknown:
Actually, I yeah. It was four years ago. I was I'm a I love doing bible studies, like, with a book. Yeah. So, like, Priscilla Shire, she has a great book called Fervent, and it's on prayer. Mhmm. And so that was one of the last ones I was finishing up. And at the time, I could not afford to buy because to purchase these new, they're very expensive. You know, study bibles and study books are very expensive. And, with a lot of the Christian bookstores closing down, they're hard to find as well. And the library has limited resources, the regular libraries. So I was just crying to the Lord about it. And he said, do you remember the bookmobile that used to come to town? Because I grew up in a small town. And during the summer, the bookmobile would come so that we could have access to books. And I was like, yeah. I remember the bookmobile. I loved it. And the holy spirit was like, well, there are other people out there like you. So if you will start a bookmobile, I'll send them materials.
And so, I started asking some of my friend I started, registering for the 501 C 3. Okay. And I got that done. And then I started telling my friends that what I was gonna do. And they were like, oh, I've got a ton of books for you. They've been sitting on my shelves. You know, I hate to just throw them away. So I started collecting books, and then it just started growing and growing. And, you'll notice I have, like, that rack of books of where they fell down Yep. One of the kids' books. So those kind of racks, I would take out. I would pack everything in little tubs, take them out to different locations, get them out of my car with the racks and the shelves Table. Tables.
Yes. And I would set them out and let people go through them. And I did that for almost four years. And I took a little break because it just got to be a lot. I had, done many events and had some large, pastors, libraries donated to us. And so the materials were just too much and everything. So I took a little break. Mhmm. And then, and I'd always looked at this one website for specialty vehicles for sale used. And, while I was on this little break, you know, the Lord said, hey, why don't you just check that website out that you've checked out before for, you know, a vehicle? And I did. And lo and behold, there was this bookmobile. Now a lot of the the other So this came as is because As? I guess this is this is audio, but this is a really you know, just looking around, this is a really nice Yes. Pet shelves and everything and Yes. It this was a bookmobile. And a lot of times when I looked online for those, it would either be like a, mammogram.
Yeah. Yeah. Or like a testing, something like that, or like a UPS delivery truck that we would have to convert. But, when the Lord said to look, I looked and there was this one, and it was in Hamilton, Ohio. I'm from Middletown. I know exactly what Hamilton is. Yeah. Yeah. So this is from Lane Library. Okay. And they had it listed for 39,000. It had 21,000 miles on it. And so my husband and I went up to look at it. And when we got there, she said, no. I've gotta tell you. There's an issue with the starter. This is only this vehicle is a 02/2011,
[00:13:20] Unknown:
I think. Okay. They had only ran it for, like, eight years, I think. And then it's 31,000 miles. I mean, that's not 21. 20 one. I'm sorry. Yeah. That's not very high. I know. And for 30 for this size is Especially for a book, like something that goes around. Like, its job is to move. Yes.
[00:13:37] Unknown:
So she said there's a starter issue. And, so she said when you it just won't disengage. And my husband being mechanical, he said, well, that's easy to fix. We'll just hit it with a hammer and it'll stop, you know. And then we can change the starter. Yeah. So, but it started right up and then it turned off. So we were like, wow, you know. And then so all of the racks, we actually have these racks here, these rolling racks that are locked in. They came with it as well, all the shelving. The lift works as you notice. Nope. And they said the generator didn't work that was inside it. Sure.
And so, we said, it's wonderful. We're very interested. We're gonna go, talk about it and pray about it and because we really don't wanna have to finance it. Right. So, while we were doing that and talking to some people, she called me. It was probably about, maybe a week after we had gone and looked no. It's about two weeks after we'd gone to look at it. And she said, hey. I just had to let you know. Somebody already found out about it. Well, somebody found out about it because it's advertised. Yeah. Yeah. And she said, they know all the issues. They came in and offered us 15,000 cash Mhmm. And would take it today. She said, but I told him that there was somebody else that was looking at it, and we were gonna see if you could match the deal.
And I said, yes. So I'm like, but can you give us just a little time to raise the money? We don't wanna finance it. Right. And she goes, absolutely. She's, well, wait. What do you mean? Like Leah. Year? And I was like, no. Timeline on this. Yeah. I said, no. About ninety days. She goes, sure. I'm like, do you want us to put a deposit down or anything? She said, no. We'll just see you in ninety days. Yes. So we were 8,000 raised. Mhmm. We're ninety days into it. And, I just text her, and she said, yeah. That's fine. You guys are so close. We'll just we'll you know, we know you'll get it. And then it was about a week later, she text and said, hey. Is there any way we could speed this deal up? Can we sweeten the deal? Yeah. And so I'm my husband and I are actually in the car when I'm getting this, and I'm texting, Nancy who's on our board Yeah.
And a big supporter of the of the bookmobile. And her and her husband own a company. And so she's like, oh my gosh. Offer them 10. We'll put up the other two. Yeah. And so I said, well, we could bring 10 next Friday. And she said, done. Done. So we got this for $10,000.
[00:16:07] Unknown:
That's a really good deal, I feel like. That's yes. An incredible I don't know anything about bookmobiles and the current going rates.
[00:16:14] Unknown:
This thing, if we would have just turned around and resold it, we could have got the 40 out of it. Really? Yes. That's really nice. But then also, we so the generator wasn't running. And, we my husband, he's a tinkerer. Yeah. So he started tinkering on it. And then I'm on the Lions Club of Goshen, and our treasurer's brother is a diesel mechanic Nice. Because this is all diesel. Yep. So I'm like, hey. Can you just have him come look at it for us? You know? And so he came, and my husband actually got it to fire Mhmm. But it wouldn't stay running. He's like, hey. Hand me that screwdriver. And so he just went tap tap, and it when he tapped it, it ran longer. Yep. And he goes, you have water in it. It just needs to be ran out. Right. So we ended up running it out and got it to, you know, stay running, and it ran it all out. And it ran and ran the air conditioners on this all summer
[00:17:09] Unknown:
until Air conditioner in the summer, I imagine. Yes. Yeah. Yeah. Until
[00:17:14] Unknown:
October when we were headed to the pumpkin run, and then it quit on us. Okay. And then, so it we ended up a friend of ours, said take it up and have it looked at, and she paid the bill. We found out it's not fixable. Yeah. But we're it's fixable if we pay 12,000 or we could buy a new one for 15. Yeah. So we're like, let's just cut our losses and go with a a new one. So we're trying to do that. But, yes, that's so that then we had the bookmobile. So then we were able to do more locations because it's easier to drive it than it is for me to load and unload. And I'm the only one who actually drives it.
But I don't mind. I like it. You know? Yeah. So So,
[00:18:00] Unknown:
it sounds like you have people that that back you. But, I mean, can if people wanted to, are they can they donate to you, or do you have a website where they can donate or things like that? Yes. So we have wellonwheelslibrary.org,
[00:18:13] Unknown:
is our website. And, we have through, GoDaddy. You can actually go on there and make a donation or on through our Facebook page. I think it's on there as well. But we also have Venmo. Whenever we're out, like, today, we always have a jar open. We don't have any, like, regular supporters right now. That's what we're trying Oh, that's alright. That we're trying to gain. We have, like, myself and a couple other individuals who will just donate on a regular basis, you know, to keep it going. Right. But we have to get this, we had multiple businesses that, you know, donated large amounts. But, we also get some support from Walmart. We've applied for their grants and stuff. But That's nice. Yeah. We are on the verge of trying to, we're we're growing because it was just me for Yeah. Yeah. You know, almost four years. But now there's we have a whole board.
There's five of us. We have a financial director who's helping us get our budget in. Because like, I was like, well, I know we need money, but I don't even know how much you tell people we need. Right. You know, because we don't know the gap. We don't know the diesel. We don't know how long, you know, those kind of things. So she's working with us to get that, established. And then we've got an administrative director who helps make sure that we're getting we're doing everything legally Yep. And making sure all of our Especially with the five zero one three c. Yes. I mean, you gotta make sure you're doing everything by the book. Yes. And it's really not as complicated as most people think as I was gonna actually ask you about that. Yeah. The five zero one three c process is that what did you have to do for that? Was it complicated? Or No. I've actually taught two other people and got them registered for their five zero one c threes. But it's if you do your research, you don't need a lawyer. You don't need to pay $7,000.
If you just go online, I have it all actually written out. Right. Like, give it to some friends of mine who are also in ministry. But you basically just file your trade name, then you file for, you register with the state, and then you file for your five zero one c three, and you have to pick out which category you are. Like, for us, it's, we're under this the religion section, but we're not a church. And, so it's just we're basically just a, tax exempt
[00:20:33] Unknown:
nonprofit, a five zero one c three. And I think I I don't know if people know this, but nonprofit doesn't mean that you don't make a profit. It just means that you're not specifically doing the business for profit. Exactly. Yes. I mean, obviously, we need money. Well, certainly. You know? Because even though the majority of these books are donated,
[00:20:51] Unknown:
we do purchase items. Because for example, I know it's really hard to do on a podcast. But if I could, like, we have these really cute books. If you would just imagine, this little curly guy, which is funny because he looks like you. Oh, really? Look at David right there that You know I saw that. I know. Does it but I mean, you know, those kind of things we purchase, because those you're not gonna find very often, either on eBay or in the thrift stores, which is where if we go to buy She has books in here that are tough to find out in Yeah. Kinda out in the wild, so to speak. Yes. Like the Dead Sea Squirrels. I saw Dead Sea Squirrels. I thought that was hilarious. Yes. That's a new series. Okay. Very popular, with kids, you know, of chapter book reach age.
But those are like, they're brand new. Like, you know, if you go to buy them at a bookstore, that book is gonna cost you, like, $7.99. Yeah. You know? But we are you know, we get a little we for one, we get tax discount, but we also pay for, at christian book dot com is where we buy a lot of them. We pay, for a subscription, and so then we also get another discount. But, we're constantly watching it. They have sales all the time, so we're able to get things like that. And then we when we talk to people and we do some research on what's popular, what do people like, now that we've got the catalog set up, we can actually track what, people are taking. Okay. So, like, we just did an event, called a caring place. It's a, a pregnancy center down in off of Mount
[00:22:25] Unknown:
Tabasco Road. Is that right? Carmel something? I think it sound I'm turned here at directions. Okay. Okay. Full disclosure, I have no idea where I am at any point in mid You're directionally challenged. I am very directionally challenged.
[00:22:37] Unknown:
So but we did their event, which is a big fundraiser. It was a huge it was a huge event for us too last year when we did it. But last year, we didn't have this. So we actually had a spot inside and out. But, I've almost forgot oh, forgot where I was going. So we were able to check out all the materials, with our system. Mhmm. So then I was able to take, that data and know that how that we had, I think it was, I wanna say, 24 pieces Okay. That went out. Right? And we had, the majority of them was a tie between, Bibles Mhmm. And, what I call improvement or, you know, seller improvement books. Yeah. And seven of those were a specific offer.
So we were able to tell, you know, which things are the most popular so that we make sure that we're constantly putting those type of things in. Or next year when we go, we know our audience. Yeah. So we wanna make sure that when we take materials that it's gonna meet the people that are there. That's really nice. Yeah. Yeah.
[00:23:41] Unknown:
So I do wanna ask you, and I'm I'm gonna violate an interview rule and make it a double barrel question. K. So what kind of books are you seeing, or do you find yourself that you really like, for adults and for children? So if I'm an adult, what what's out there right now that, you're really liking or you're seeing people like, for adults and children?
[00:24:03] Unknown:
So what I find, for the adults is a lot of them so it it depends on, like, the audience. Okay? So there's Christians and believers who they sort of know some of the names. They know some of the people. They know some of the the authors. Right? And then there's the, you know, people that come in who maybe haven't, been very faithful. Sure. But for the most part, they're pretty much the same. Either they want to understand the bible or they wanna fix the problem that they're having. Sure. So, for a lot a lot like, right now, we have the author of the month and Lisa Turkhurst. She's amazing. And a lot of the Christians know her name. Because she's very out there, you know, and very popular.
She's marketed very well. Yeah. And she's written a lot of books and a lot on trust because she had her trust violated by her ex husband. So that is a you know, that's a huge issue with a lot of people. Yep. Whether for anything. You know, when you go into any type of relationship or friendship, you have to build that trust. You know? So, that's a really good one. I actually have a book that I'm gonna give you today. Okay. Yes. Which is one of my favorite books. I have been reading it for twenty one years now. Okay. It's a devotional. It's for, it's called a one minute business vans devotional. Okay. And it was written by a pastor, and it teaches you how to do business, but also to, use Jesus as your guide. Alright. That'd be great. And it's wonderful. So a lot of times when people come in, I'm able to make a connection with them, and then I always find the business people. You know? Yeah.
And I'm always like, you've gotta you've gotta have this book, because it's just amazing.
[00:25:58] Unknown:
Well, I think that's important, especially with what you're doing. Making that and especially with something like faith is finding that that way into it, I guess you would say. Yes. Because it needs to be personal. Like, it needs to to affect you. Absolutely. And, you know, I read the Bible. I need to read more of it, but, you know, just just doing that, you know, it's kinda like these stories are great, but how do I get my life into Yes. So Yes.
[00:26:25] Unknown:
I love that. One of the things that, like, I learned through, just trying to find out about some of these offers. One of them is Anne Graham Lotz. Okay. And, she's Billy Graham's daughter. Okay. And she's written multiple books. But one of them that she does, one of she doesn't really have a book on it, but she does a teaching on it, and it's called the three question method. And, so that's what I incorporate now in my bible study, and I talk to people about it, and I'll share the link with them. But she basically asks three questions when she reads the scriptures. Mhmm. What does it say? Mhmm. So she's a journaler. You know? So she'll write down exactly word for word what it says. Then she asks, what does it mean? Yeah. So is this a promise or a, an instruction or is it you know, what is it that God's trying to tell us? And then what does it mean to me? Right. So it's a great way to really understand and be able to apply
[00:27:28] Unknown:
that. You know? So I really like that three questions. Because in the what it means part, I so I work out in the mornings, and I work out with a lot of guys. I don't have you ever heard of East River Church in in Batavia? No. I haven't. Well, they the church is, like, right next to the gym. So and they're all, like, pastors and elders there. And so a lot of times our our lifting in the morning, it will be theology discussions because I'm I'm Catholic, so there's obviously a rich ground of debate between us in the morning. But I what the what it means party because all these guys are studying theology very intensive. I mean, getting their masters of theology Wow. That and the what it means. It's like there's so many you really do have to read it closely to to really tease apart, and a study Bible is great. I mean, even though it's not a Catholic Bible, I read the ESV Bible Yeah. Just because those sub you know, the the notes in them are so good because you get so much context. Yep. Right? Mhmm.
I I kinda wait. I there might be a good Catholic study bible. I haven't I've looked and there's nothing quite like the ESV. Yes. That's the one I'm on right now, is ESP.
[00:28:36] Unknown:
I started out with an NIB. So I grew up in a,
[00:28:42] Unknown:
actually, can I tell you a bit about my Oh, yeah? Absolutely. I was gonna ask you about your faith and and where you head at church and stuff like that, but if you wanna give me a little bit more back. So yeah. Yeah. I feel great. Thank you.
[00:28:51] Unknown:
So I my mother was 22 years old when she had me. Mhmm. And my father was not in the picture. Mhmm. He wasn't around much, and he was a lineman. And, my mom, when I was a year and a half, had gotten a phone call in the middle of the night. We were renting a room off of, my great aunt's grandmother. Okay. So just someone through marriage and rent rent a room at her at her house. And my mom had gotten a phone call in the middle of the night, so she had to go out somewhere. Not really wasn't sure what the story was about that. But, so she told my told grandma, who wasn't really my grandma Yeah. Again, but told her I'll, you know, I'll be right back. She went and had a car wreck. Oh, no.
And was thrown from her car. And my great aunt and her sister were actually the first ones on the scene. They were on their way to work and found her. My mom, the next day, actually passed away. Sorry. Thank you. So there was a little bit of, struggle between, some family members on who to take care of me because the majority of my family were in the Zinnia Children's Home. Okay. All but two of my relatives, my aunt, was married. Mhmm. And then I had an uncle who was disabled, but so he wasn't able to take care of me. But my aunt, wanted to take care of me, and thought it was her duty.
So after the funeral, she asked to take me with her for the weekend, because I was just at the time just staying with my great aunt Yeah. Who had had custody before my mom was old enough, before she came of age before. So, I was just kinda staying with her. And so after the funeral, my aunt took me and thought that she should keep me Mhmm. And thought it was the right thing to do. Yeah. But my great aunt was like, no. You're not in a position and you're in an alcoholic, you know, a very abusive relationship. It's not a good thing. So then the court got involved. Mhmm. And this 62 year old woman who we had rented a room from, that everybody in this little town knew as grandma Pink Yeah. Because her last name was Pinkerton. Sure. She stepped up to the judge and said, I will take her to Ray's.
The they she can go visit with the other sides of the family, but I'll be responsible for her. Yeah. And the judge said, I think that's the best thing ever. So Sounds like you're really lucky to have her watching out for you. Very. Yeah. So if you I have a great picture of us that was taken. You know how back in the day pictures used to have, like, the date on the side of them? Yeah. Yeah. So this picture was taken April of seventy three Okay. Which was 04/16/1973 was when my mother passed. Okay. So we're not sure. It's a picture of me and my grandma, grandma pink. And we're hugging, and we're both smiling. And we don't know who took that picture, whether it was taken before the accident or after.
But it just symbolizes our life together. And so she had always taken me to church with her. Yep. And so that's how I come to know, you know, I knew the Lord. But just I went to Sunday school. Sure. And then, when I was about 13, my grandma said, now if you're gonna have a friend stay over, they've gotta go to church with you the next day. So I was like, okay. I'm like, Jewel, do you wanna go to church? And she's like, oh, I don't mind. You know? And I'm like, you've never been to church or that I knew of. You know? Yeah. So we go to church, and sure enough, the Sunday school teacher asked a question, a question, and I didn't know the answer. And she did. The answer was Jesus. And I was so mortified that and, you know, I've been going to church since I could Yeah. Walk. You know?
And I was so embarrassed and mortified that I slipped away from church. Yeah. And so I didn't go back. You know, but then, years years later, I was, like, 20, I think I was. It was 1999. I was not living right. Yeah. And, I'd gone to bed one night, and, I just as soon as I closed my eyes, this movie this movie came on of all the bad things I've been doing, you know, and I hated it. And I you know, the next night, click, it came on. Yeah. By the third night, I was, like, crying. I didn't wanna go to bed because I'm like, that movie's gonna come on again, you know. And if it was just everything was just on, like, this big whiteboard, I could just wipe it away, you know, and erase it. And that's when the Lord said, only God could do that. Yeah. You know, to remind me of that time when that seed was planted back when I was a little girl. I was like, that's right. Yeah.
So that Sunday, I got up and went to the church that my grandma had taken me to when I was a little girl. And my grandma had since passed, you know. But I met with the preacher and said, hey, I gotta talk to you. So he came to the house and he's like, what's going on? You know, and I just told him about the situation. Yeah. And he was like, gosh, I wish they were all as easy as you because, you know, I was ready. Yeah. And so he led me to the Lord. And, when I was baptized,
[00:34:02] Unknown:
they gave me a study bible, an NIV study bible. I got all those from my aunt when I was very, very young. Yeah. And this study bible. It's a great,
[00:34:12] Unknown:
the new international version is great for, easy reading. Mhmm. So, you know, there's different levels of Bibles. There's Yeah. Actually, can you talk about that? Yes. I don't wanna divert from your story. No. No. That was basically, it. That's where I got my, that's where I became to know Jesus. But
[00:34:29] Unknown:
because I don't know if a lot of people realize they may, I guess, if they're they're well founded in their church or they know a lot about theology, but not all Bibles are made equal. Right. And it's a big like, translation is a huge issue because you can translate something a million different ways. There's different historical notes that you can put in. So when I was looking for a Bible Yes. It it kinda blew me away all the different kinds of Bibles that I could actually get. So if you could just run through kind of what some of the common ones and what they're good for. Absolutely. I'd love that because I was just working on that today.
[00:35:01] Unknown:
So there is I'll see if I have my paper prepared, but I'll show you. Sure. I don't. So there are word for word bibles. Mhmm. There are thought for thought. Mhmm. And there's paraphrase. So word for word Bibles are as close to the actual manuscripts. They use they basically are word for word Yeah. How they're written. So there's, like, the interlinear, which is the closest, and then there's, the amplified Okay. And the, American Standard Bible. Okay. I'm I know I'm not in perfect order with these, but then there's, like, the ESV Sure. KJV,
[00:35:45] Unknown:
King James version. And King's James is the one that's gonna have that kind of Shakespearean old English. Yes. No. It's not old English, but it's, I think, Victorian perhaps. Yes. Because it was written
[00:35:56] Unknown:
back in, I don't remember, like, the eighteen hundreds. But it was written back then by King James who, he he had 60 people work on this bible to make the, you know, the bible the way,
[00:36:09] Unknown:
it should be written Mhmm. Other than the Catholic version. Yes. Which we should bring up. There are Catholic Bibles. So Yes. If you're out there looking for a Bible if you're Catholic, get a Catholic Bible. If you're not, you probably shouldn't get a Catholic. I think it would just confuse you, I'm sure.
[00:36:24] Unknown:
So, but so they, he had those made. But then I've been to churches where there's a lot of, people that don't like, like, the ESV or the NIV, because they're like, oh, they're just not the real word. You know? But
[00:36:41] Unknown:
I mean, the real word is an ancient Hebrew. So it's like, how do you Yes. Unless you speak ancient Hebrew.
[00:36:47] Unknown:
So I always explain to him this. You have to understand that there were a thousand people that worked on, for example, the NIV Bible. Yeah. There were 60, and they were back in the eighteen hundreds. And now we have a new a different type of language for one. So there's a really good verse. I think it's in Peter. Maybe it's in Peter, that's it talks about Lot, referencing Lot. And, in the King James version, it talks about his conversation. Yeah. But back in the day, conversation meant Yeah. Lifestyle. Yep. Whereas now, we know conversation is talking. So the NIV tells about his lifestyle.
[00:37:29] Unknown:
Right. You know? And, so that's The King James is beautiful. I mean, the language in it is absolutely beautiful. But there are lots of things like that where Yes. Read, you might think think that they're talking about one thing, but Exactly. It means a completely different thing. And at least in my in my view, if you're gonna study something that's as complicated as the Bible, you might as well read it in something that's comfortable and up to date. Yes. To because if you try starting out with the King James version, not not only are you dealing with complex subject matter, but then you've gotta figure out, you know, you've got to figure out how they were talking in the eighteen hundreds and then translate it. It's almost like you need to translate it again. Absolutely. You know? Yes.
[00:38:09] Unknown:
So the word for word bibles are more for studying, for, they're a little more in-depth. Mhmm. The thought for thought books are versions I'm sorry. The thought for thought versions are more, they're easier to read. They're for light studying. Mhmm. But then the paraphrase are more, just for easy readers. They're great for, if you if they're written more like a novel Sure. Rather than, like verse 21 and this and that. Yeah. You know? So they're written more they're very easy to understand. I've actually never heard of heard of one of those. That must be kind of interesting to read it as like a Yeah. Story. So there it's there's one called the message bible. Okay. We actually have a copy of that. I'll share that with you when it is very. And there's actually a our circulation director, she has a, daughter that or great daughter, I'm sorry, that is, mentally challenged.
So she loves the message bible. It's easier for even though she's over 18, it's just easier for her to read and to understand, especially when you see certain scriptures just side by side, you know, and you see the difference. It's a great. I think the message bible is great when you're wanting to take a verse that you love Mhmm. But have it explained in a different way or an easier way. I'll I like to use Or just to
[00:39:32] Unknown:
hear the story. Yes. You know, just to be because if you if you get into something like an ESV or any other kind of bible, I mean, it is you have to participate. Yeah. But you have to be aware of what you're reading. You have to look at footnotes, and then, you know, you'll get, like, a map, and then you're trying to orient yourself. But it would be nice just to read like it's a book. Yes. You know? Absolutely.
[00:39:55] Unknown:
Yeah. That's where, like, I like where I was at before when I was reading something. It's great to have a a book alongside it. There's a fantastic book that's also one of my favorites. We don't currently have a copy, but I was just talking to a lady about it, this today. It's called The Girl Still Got It. Okay. And it's written by Liz Curtis Higgs, and it is about the book of Ruth. Okay. And the way that Liz describes the scene, she's done a lot of study of the time. Like, she describes, the weather at the gravesite and what everybody would be wearing. Yeah. Yeah. So you really as you're reading this, you really feel like you're there. Right. And it just puts it so and she really takes the book of Ruth and puts it into the story that it is by adding those details that aren't in the bible Right. You know, through doing studies.
But then she also has questions at the end, so it's like a bible study. So I love that. But, the bible is just full of
[00:40:58] Unknown:
fun stuff. It is. And it is It's full of a lot of really good stories. It is. Unless It's the old testament. There's some wild stuff in the old testament.
[00:41:07] Unknown:
So funny story. My husband, he's not much of a reader, but he likes to listen to the YouVersion Sure. Of the Bible. And so he's like, hey. Come on one day. He says, these people are disgusting. Yeah. Well, that's what I
[00:41:25] Unknown:
I I think a lot of people who haven't cracked open the Bible, especially the Old Testament, I don't think they realize that a lot of those characters in there are not very good people. No. Like, they they're kinda they're cheaters or Yes. You know, they're liars and they're Yes. They're all just very I mean, they're complex characters. They were human. They were very human people. Yeah. It's it's not like everybody in the old testament was a hundred and even in the new testament, it's like Yes. The only person in the new testament that was all good was Jesus. Yes. Everybody else was you know, had their own human flaws and Yep. Goals and ambitions. And it's it's I've I really enjoyed reading that, and then it's it's just it kind of makes it deeper. You know? You I think some people think the Bible is just a bunch of, you know, platitudes or, you know, just a bunch of good people doing good things, and that is not the case whatsoever. Right. Right. I know. It is. It's great to see people like the woman at the well,
[00:42:20] Unknown:
you know, and to hear stories like her, and other people that are they're flawed just like we are. And so it helps me to understand that I know that's one of the reasons why I gave my life to Jesus because I knew that I was a sinner. Yeah. You know? And I know that I still sin today, but if it weren't for Jesus, I'm still gonna make, you know, mistakes, and I'm gonna be disappointing. But he's right there to just say, I love you. Yeah. And I say, forgive me, and he does. Yeah. And, you know, it's it's beautiful. Well, it's it's funny. My
[00:42:49] Unknown:
I think, actually, I sent my wife this meme this morning on Instagram, and it said, you know, what people think Christianity is. And there's this guy with this happy face, like, oh, I'd love everybody, and I'm so good. It's like, what Christianity actually is. And this guy whose face is all beat up, and he's like, lord, I'm a sinner and a terrible person. I'm sorry. Yes. That's really what it's like. It really is. Really examining your flaws, deeply examining your flaws, and being deeply repented. There's, you know, regretful for them and repenting for them. I mean, that's that's really the work of of of a Christian, I think. At least the internal personal work of a Christian is Absolutely.
Really looking at yourself and and looking at all the warts and ugly parts that Yep. That you don't like and
[00:43:34] Unknown:
apologizing for them. Yeah. You know? And when you when a person actually sees the way Jesus sees themselves, you know, that makes a that makes a huge difference on someone's life. Yeah. One of our one another great, author that we have is Lisa Harper. Okay. And she is one of those people. She went to seminary, and she knows theology. But she says, you know, all theology is is discussing the bible. Right. She goes, I know it sounds like this huge thing, she said, but really it's just reading, understanding, and discussing it. Yeah. Which is wonderful. But she talks about how the bible is a love story Yeah. For all of us. It is a love story from God to us. And as you read through it, you really do start to see that where God provided things like he's not gonna flood the earth again. He gave us the rainbow. He that's his reminder that he's here, you know. Yeah. And just all throughout and everything that's happened, it just shows how much he loves us and and how he continues to forgive us and give us that opportunity, you know, to to have fellowship with him. I think a lot of people
[00:44:46] Unknown:
I find myself in this trap a lot too because I like theology. I like I like reading. I I have way too many books. So I'd I'd definitely sympathize you carrying around books. I know how heavy those are. My wife and I have moved a couple of times, and every time I just look at my bookshelves and go, oh, no. Yeah. But I feel like people can get wrapped up in theology and miss the faith part of it Yes. And miss the, like, this is a personal this is a relationship. This is it's it's great to understand you know, it's great to read Thomas Aquinas and kind of understand the little intricacies of of your faith and your belief, especially as a Catholic, the catechism, things like that. But at the root of it, it's it's faith. And that and that's what you need to be, that's what you need to be conversing with. That's what you need to be interacting with. Yeah. And it's great to, you know, have a heady, you know, like, oh, you know, they in Hebrew, it's this, and in Greek, it's that, and it means this, and it relates to this. But, you know, if you if you put your head too much in it and not enough of your heart into it, you're not gonna get what you need to out of it. You know? Frankly, you're not gonna be able to hear when God is telling you something, which is a a big part of it too Yes. Is listening. You know? Yes. Absolutely.
So I'm sorry. I'm if you had something to say, I wanna cut you off. Go ahead. What about for kids? What what are some really good books for kids?
[00:46:07] Unknown:
So, we've got a lot of board books. I I have grandkids, so I understand that how long their attention lasts Yeah. And how things Well, I've got a five year old. It Yeah. Yeah. So but they love to be read to. You know? I have a three year old grandson who, we have this one little book. It's called Bear Hugs. Mhmm. And, like, he noticed, like, as we're reading through it that the little bear had a tear. He was like, oh, I'm sad. You know? Yeah. But so anything that they can manipulate, you know, the younger kids that they can manipulate. We've got, flip flap books, you know, that we just got in that have fabric on them Okay. Versus the paper. Tactile. Yes. Yeah. We have some of the, we have one called Creation, which also has some, touchy feelies for, sensory.
But anything that they can grasp or read, that's why I like to get books that have big graphics on them or funny, you know, that will grab their attention. With the kids, we like to go with, like, the Dead Sea Squirrels or the Young David. Still cracks me up. Yes. Squirrels. It's fine. The story is so funny. I've actually started listening to the audiobooks of them, and they're actually frozen squirrels that this boy finds, in these in this, cave. His dad's an archaeologist. Okay. And he finds he finds these frozen squirrels Uh-huh. And decides he's gonna take them home. Yeah. And well, they end up falling out. Yeah. And so they have seen Yeah. Some of the things of the past. And so they That's Yeah. He plugged in. Yeah. Yeah. Very clever. But they're a mischief. And and they're it's a married couple. The squirrels are married. It's very good. It's a very good story. But, so we have those and then, like, we try to like, I have a I use my grandkids a lot as as guides on what to get. So I have a grandson who is incredible with Legos. I mean, the boy can just build them like, Yeah. You know, he can just take them and build something amazing. And I'm like, how did you do that without instructions?
Yeah. So we got the brick bible Okay. Which is the Lego version. It's a it's like a, graphic novel. Okay. So it has the pictures, but they're and it, then we've tried to just match up things that little kids would like or girls would like, like princesses or, you know, but we always incorporate the bible stories too. So and then we've got teens. We have it separated by preschool, elementary. Okay. Then we've got juvenile, which to me is like tweens, the pre Sure. Sure. Tweens. Yeah. Then we've got teens, and then we have young adults, which are, out of high school Mhmm. Or in their senior year going into college, to to reach their age as well. But there's some great authors in all of those Who's all your favorites?
I like Wilkin.
[00:49:11] Unknown:
I like, of course, CS Lewis. Yeah. CS Lewis. Yes. I love the Narnia books. I I need to read more of his Christian essays because I I really haven't read many. Actually, I I've read any of them. But as a kid, I'd loved the Narnia books. Yes. It was like Narnia, and then my next stop was Lord of the Rings, and then and then I'd I'd love fantasy. So Yes.
[00:49:31] Unknown:
So there's also, when you say that, there's also, Ted Decker who is a fiction author, Christian fiction author. Okay. We have tons of his materials, and I think he's from from around this area, actually, from but I'm not I'm I wish Nancy was here because she knows, because she actually is the one who introduced me to the books. Okay. But he now has a teen series out, which is fantasy.
[00:49:57] Unknown:
Okay.
[00:49:58] Unknown:
But they're always looking to their, you know, they talk about their higher, you know, higher power and and about God. Mhmm. And there's also a a really good, series out for kids that's fantasy as well that is the, Wing Feather Saga.
[00:50:15] Unknown:
Okay.
[00:50:16] Unknown:
That's wonderful. Is it good? Oh, I've been watching the show, the cartoon show. I haven't read the books, but it is phenomenal. I think kids would really like it because it has a king in it. Yeah. You know, it has a prince. Like, this young boy finds out he's gonna be a a king and, but there's, these things I forget even what they're called. Fangs. They call them fangs, but they're these creatures that have that lord over them. Okay. You know, the and so anyway, but there's all kinds. We always try to get a wide variety of things. I've never been one for, like, comics or, you know, I'm more of a bible study person, but a nonfiction reader. I'd rather read a true story Right. Than I would a fiction book, but they're very popular. You know? So, we always have a huge section of those. But for kids, like, five year olds, we have great little, board books. I don't know of any authors other than what we have. You know? Like, they're various. You know? So
[00:51:20] Unknown:
So you'd said you watch cartoons. Are there I think I looked on the website, and you said you have DVDs and things like that. We do. What are some because it it's our daughter's five, and, you know, we are she watches television. And sometimes it can be very difficult to find good shows for her to watch. Are there some shows that you would recommend for parents? Absolutely.
[00:51:43] Unknown:
Perfect. Yes. So we're actually working on getting a, like, a brochure Okay. That would have because I know a lot of people stream things. Right? Absolutely. And so we have tons of DVDs for VeggieTales. And, we just got in the series Is VeggieTales still going on? I know that was is that still going on? I don't know. We they yeah. They come out with a movie. Really? Yeah. Still. I think Larry's coming out with another movie. Do it Veggie Tales first. Yes.
[00:52:12] Unknown:
Yes. Probably twenty years or something.
[00:52:14] Unknown:
And Adventures in Odyssey or the or, like, to to me, Veggie Tales is, for elementary kids. Yeah. And then Adventures in Odyssey, which was a radio drama, which then they put into cartoons, and now they have books, which that is for, the teenagers, or maybe if, like, I would say juvenile, you know, three teens up to the teens. But we're working on a brochure that will have those links. But we do have a lot of DVDs. We just don't get people checking them out very often. And we're finding that that a lot of them stream it. So, like, I we have a membership with, Angel Studio. Okay. And that's who has the, Young David series, the one that just came out.
They also have, there's also Minnow, which is another streaming service that has, and that bible down there at the bottom, that's kind of the characters from Minnow. The Minnow. Okay. Yeah. And they have a lot of kids' shows. It's almost like the And Minnow is a streaming service. Is Minnow, m I n n o, is a streaming service. And I would say it is probably the Christian Nickelodeon. Okay. So that's where you the where you'd have more Angel Studios has a mix of cartoons, but more movies and more, like, documentaries. Mhmm. I like that. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
But I love the the cartoons. I love VeggieTales. I love Young David.
[00:53:46] Unknown:
But Have you watched my wife is watching what is it? House of David?
[00:53:51] Unknown:
Do you like do you like that? My friend told me about it. My husband and I watched the first episode, and, yes, it is I wish they would do more
[00:54:02] Unknown:
like that because it's, like, showing those stories how they really are Yes. Is well, like we talked about earlier, I mean, it's it's it's violent and it's tense and there's drama. It's, I had I don't watch it with her, but the parts that I've seen, I'm like, well, this looks really Yeah. Aging. Yeah.
[00:54:20] Unknown:
Like because, you know, I've read the Bible. My husband is just reading the Bible. Mhmm. So when we started watching that show and they got to the part where the, where Saul had captured the king and he was supposed to have killed everything Yep. I knew what was gonna happen. And I'm like, oh, I hope they well, they're gonna do it. You know? And my I'm just like, oh, babe. This is gonna be good. They're all like You're gonna like this part. Yeah. And so, you know, when he I was like I'm just like waiting for it waiting for it. Yeah. You know? Which is I think it's wonderful, especially when you have that already. You know.
And you are as a Christian, can also watch something and know because if because if he would have walked out and not done what he was supposed to do Mhmm. Mhmm. Then I would have been like, that's not double click or you're accurate. But, you know, when he pulled that sword out, I was like, yeah. But there it is. That's it. So, no, it's it's worth yes. Yep. So yeah. But What about the chosen? I'm so glad you asked because, you know, that's one of my favorite I when I tried getting my husband to watch it, he was like, not interested. But then, I went away for a spiritual weekend. And when I came back, he's like, you gotta see this show. It's amazing. But I love it because, it shows Jesus as a loving Mhmm. Person, a funny person. Yep. You know? And I believe that's the way he is. Yep. You know? And one of my favorite scenes is when him and Peter run up and hug each other. Mhmm. There's a, Christian group called Cain, c a I n. Okay. And they have a song called, The Commission. Mhmm. And they use it in The Chosen, so there's clips of it in the video. Okay. Is that the intro song? I honestly don't know. Okay. I actually haven't watched it in a while.
Is it I would sing it, but I don't know.
[00:56:26] Unknown:
If you're not comfortable singing it, I won't mess you up. I have sang it before, but it's like,
[00:56:31] Unknown:
go tell the world about me. Okay. And but in that video, they he they show that part where Peter and Jesus are hugging. Mhmm. And I just think, when I get to heaven, I get to hug him that way. Yeah. Yeah. You know? And, you know, he's I believe that he I could see him tripping somebody. You know what I'm saying? Yes. You know? He because that's human. Mhmm. You know? Just not, like, you know, to hurt them, but Right. Right. Just as a a funny way to engage with people, and the way that they were sitting at the, the table Mhmm. And, at the the wedding banquet Okay. Where he turned the water to wine. And they were kinda talking and laughing. You know? I just I think it it's it just adds some personal,
[00:57:19] Unknown:
attributes to him that Yeah. Yeah. It it is interesting to I'll have to watch it. But, you know, you you read the Bible, you know, you go to church, you hear, the gospel, and it's it's really easy to think of Jesus as I mean, he was a person. He was god and a person, all of that, But it's it's hard to think of him like that. You know? Yes. So it's it's interesting to see those. I I I've never seen the passion of the Christ. I know. I know. I still need to see that. Okay. I'm I've actually heard Mel Gibson is coming out with the resurrection story Yes. Which I've seen him doing interviews of, and he said it's gonna be pretty wild. Yeah. Wait for that. That's Yes. That's gonna be crazy. Yes. But I did wanna ask, are there any more shows for adults that that that you're watching that that you would recommend?
Besides, like, House of David and Joe's. Yep. Trying to think.
[00:58:14] Unknown:
Well, I I like the Angel Studio because, like, they have the lunatic farmer on there Okay. Who you may have heard about. It's just a movie. It's just a documentary. But he's a Christian farmer who, they have a very organic farm. And, like, they he was in the news a lot. Like, he was in Time magazine, but I like that story. They've got a new movie out called Homestead, and now they have a series of it, which is about, like, the end of time. Okay. And this, prepper Yeah. Was is already you know, he's got his homestead Yep. With his family, you know, and they raise all their food, and they take care of their own water, you know, and they're off the grid. They can, survive. And so when, when it goes down, he's got people that are gonna come. And, I think that's an interesting Yeah. You know, great story.
I don't I'm not don't know all about a lot of shows That's for you know, series. Yeah. But, they've got some great movies like Rule Breakers, true story on some girls from India, I think it is, that were not allowed to compete in a science fair because they were girls. Mhmm. But somehow they ended up getting into it and won. Okay. And so yeah. I really like Angel Studios and Menno. Those are my go tos for, Christian media. Okay. Well, you've got, I think, five minutes till you open. Okay. I'm gonna just notice all these people are pulling around me. They're probably gonna, look my view. Before we,
[00:59:55] Unknown:
before we go off, though, why don't you tell people again who you are, where they can find you? Okay. Yeah. Just give yourself a little plug. Awesome. Okay.
[01:00:03] Unknown:
This is Well on Wheels Library, a local Christian bookmobile. We have a 24 foot Freightliner, truck that we drive around Clermont County, and we have it filled with, Christian and faith based books, Bibles, CDs, DVDs, resources, that we can either check out to people just like any other library. They can borrow them. Or if they choose to keep them, we ask if they're able to make a donation that they do. If not, somebody will take care of it, and we'll just make sure that we replace it. We have homeschool curriculum.
[01:00:41] Unknown:
We I forgot to ask you about the homeschool issue. I sorry. Right.
[01:00:45] Unknown:
Yeah. You can always go back and edit it, can't you? Just I would not want that.
[01:00:52] Unknown:
I have a Well, that just means we'll have to do it again. You can talk about how it's going. Yes. I think it will be really cool to,
[01:00:57] Unknown:
we're actually gonna do, some revamping of the bookmobile to make it, more fluid so that we do have a whole section because we have been getting more homeschool curriculum Sure. Which is extremely expensive. Yep. And, so we have gotten from when we the last year when we were at Caring Place, there was a lady there that actually, used to work for Answers in Genesis. Okay. And she donated a ton of movies and curriculum. Okay. So, but I I really feel like I need to tell you this story too if you don't mind. No. No. No. I'd like I said, it Yeah. It's people will just come knock on the door if they wanna come in. That works. Yeah. So there was a lady that came the last time we were at Walmart, and we were, set up. And she said she goes, could you help she goes, do you have anything for a 13 year old? She said, my son goes to school and they've brainwashed him into thinking that evolution is the way that it happened. She goes, and he's been to church and I tried to explain it to him. She's, do you have anything? And I'm like, boy, do we.
You know? Because I How? Yes. And so, I went to one of the racks, rolling racks, and straight to this movie because I I was immediately looking for anything that had Answers in Genesis or Ken Ham's name on it. And as soon as I seen this DVD, I was like, here's one. And I said, this is my Answers in Genesis. This is who they are, and this is Ken Ham, and this is what he studied. And they have the ark, and, and I was like, this is one. And she I go, oh, no. Wait. This is just about building of the ark, Yeah. The museum down there. So that's not and I said, that's not exactly talking about it. She was, oh, my son loves to build. He loves engineer Yeah. And engineering things. And I'm like, okay. There's that. So now let's go inside.
And so we come into the teen section, and the first book that I've seen was called, Now It Couldn't Have Just Happened. Yeah. You know? And it's for teens, and it's written to the the way that they can understand it. So I got her that book, and then I also found an a couple others from Answers in Genesis about evolution, and versus, creation and how you know, it's it's just what those kind of stories are what drives us. Yeah. You know? That's why we're out somewhere. You know? Like, every single time that we go out, there's somebody that we meet Mhmm.
That like, today, a lady that we met, had come in, and she's in a, Christian book club. Okay. And she loves it, and now she found a place Yeah. To connect outside of that as well, but also to donate her book. She's like, we just finished a book, and I was just gonna put it up on the shelf. She goes, but we'll bring it to you. Books are one of the things that I always, always, always will just give people. Yeah. It's like I you don't don't say you're gonna borrow it. Just take it. Yes. Because I'll get another book from somebody else. That's always been my philosophy with books. Yeah. Just give give people your books if you're not reading them. Yes. And I don't write in my books other than, like I told you, the one that I've had for twenty one years. Now that one I have written in, and it is falling apart.
But I try to say don't you can't, you know, just so because I know people that do, but if you're gonna keep them, keep them, you know, because there are moments when you wanna go back. But, they'll pass them along to someone else. When we take in books, if we can't use them here, like, we already have, 16 copies of A Purpose Driven Life. Yeah. That's an easy book to get, you know. So if we get another one donated, we're gonna pack it up, and we're gonna give it to Love Packages. Okay. And Love Packages is a, ministry out of Illinois, and they take Christian books, Bibles, DVDs, everything, and they ship them to missionaries all over the world. Well, that's a good organization Yes. For people to know about too. Yes. So they it never stops with us. If we can't use it, we pass it along. So, we tell people, just send it to us. We'll just, you know, go through it. If we've got too many, we'll just pass it along to someone else. So and that's another thing when we tell people, if you borrow a book and you get home and you find out that it speaks to you Mhmm. Keep it. Just, like, you know, text us, tell us whatever. We'll take it out of our catalog and
[01:05:33] Unknown:
love it. Yeah. So yeah. That's the books are just I love I'd I need to read more. You know, I've got two kids, a third one on the way, and a job. So it's like Congratulations. Yeah. At the end of the day, typically, I'm like, oh, I'm just I'm done. But I just I've always loved reading, and it's no matter what you read, I mean Yes. It just can enrich your life so much. Yes. It's I it's really awesome that you're doing this for for Clairemont and for people. Thank you. Thank you. Yeah. We I really enjoy doing it.
[01:06:05] Unknown:
I I never really was a reader growing up, but now that, you know, I'm really getting into the word I've become over the last four years. I I read a lot. But, I was just talking with a pastor's wife who, we actually go to, their church and set up. But, she's she works as a nurse, you know, during the day, and then she's got her family, and she's got, like, a bunch of ministries, and she's on boards. And she's like, I just don't have time to read anymore. And if I do sit down to read, she's like, I'm zonked. It knocks me out. And I said, well, have you tried an audiobook?
[01:06:40] Unknown:
You know? I have not. I need to try those. My wife my wife loves them. Yes. And, you know,
[01:06:46] Unknown:
if you have a regular library card, not ours, because we're not that we don't have that kind of money. You can get audiobooks at at Clermont County Library. Yes. Yeah. Do you know about that? Hoopla and Libby. Hoopla is the one that I use a lot through them as well to listen. Mhmm. And then Libby is what the ebooks a lot of the ebooks. Now Hoopla has both, but Libby, I think, mostly only has, like, the ebooks. If you wanna read them, you know, like, my daughter is a reader. Mhmm. She's now getting into more of the electronic
[01:07:19] Unknown:
pages. You know? You could never get into those. I try, but no. I think I think I might have to try the audiobook route just because so I listen to podcasts a Yeah. A lot. Yeah. And I'll listen to it if I'm driving somewhere or if I'm doing the dishes.
[01:07:35] Unknown:
It would be just as easy to replace out an audio book. Yes. You know? Yeah. I'm not a big TV person. Like, I don't usually watch a lot of TV. I would rather just be listening to either a radio drama or something like that. I'm I'm It's wild kinda how the radio has come back a little bit. I mean, with podcasts and and just
[01:07:53] Unknown:
audio seems to be the way a lot of people are consuming
[01:07:58] Unknown:
information and means things like that. I remember a couple years ago when people were saying, what podcast are you listening to? You know, while you're in while you're in Corona, you know, while you're while you're at home, what are you listening to on the treadmill? You know, and they but they've got they've grown so much. Yeah. And yeah. You can almost find anything and everything. I mean, literally anything and anything Yeah. Isn't isn't a podcast. Yeah. Yeah. And a lot of them were free. So that's yeah. That's very helpful to people. But yeah. So that's something that we're working on trying to get that list of things that we can recommend. Because a lot of people will ask us, what do you like? Yeah. What do you think? You know, what do you recommend? And, I don't always know, you know, especially like the TV show. Sorry. The TV shows or something like that. I'm just like, I don't know, but I'll find out for you. Yeah. You know? And which is great with our board too. Like, Nancy, who should be coming any minute now, but, she's she knows a lot of different authors that I don't. Mhmm.
And then
[01:08:56] Unknown:
Sarah knows different ones. And yeah. So It's always nice, especially as I mean, I'd call this a business. Starting something like this, it's always nice to have people who are involved that complement your abilities. Yeah. So and that Excellent. Just in starting anything, it's always nice to just have a a a good group of people around you. It sounds like you do, so that's wonderful. Yes. And we always need volunteers.
[01:09:18] Unknown:
Oh, that's another good plug. Yes.
[01:09:20] Unknown:
We actually have a couple that were, a new couple new volunteers that are gonna be starting helping us soon. So where we need help with is setting up, you know, like this. You know, just sitting out here and, talking to people, inviting them in, asking them if they need help with anything, sharing with them, you know, how are you you know, just conversation with them. But we also need help tearing down, putting things away. When we take it back to headquarters, my house Your house. HQ. Yes. If we're not, like, on we have racks, more racks than this, that we use on bigger events, and when the weather's nice that we can roll outside. So if we're at a big event like that, like we did this past weekend, then all of those racks need to come out.
So putting them back in the barn. And then, when we get materials in, they all need to be, checked in through our system. So they need to be scanned in, put a label on the back of it. Our catalog actually has everything in it just like a regular, library catalog. Okay. So, when we scan it in, it actually has everything, the cover of the book, you know, how many pages, what's the synopsis, stuff like that. But, so we have we need people to help go through all of those, and then put them on the racks, and then put them in the order of where they go, or to package them up for love packages.
So, yeah, anytime. You're welcome anytime. Right.
[01:10:54] Unknown:
I might take you up on that. That's awesome. Alright. Well, I think, like I said, you've you've gotta open. So Yep. I once again, I really appreciate you doing this. Yeah. Why don't you say your website too? We're fast
[01:11:05] Unknown:
It's wellonwheelslibrary.org. But I recommend going to find us on Facebook. Okay. Because our, website's a little dated, and I'm not good at that. So yeah. So, Facebook is easier for me to post. Like, we have our schedule pinned on our Facebook page that tells you where we're gonna be Okay. For spring. We also have a link to make an easy donation monetary donation. We also take Venmo, but more there's more information, I feel like, on our Facebook because it's easier for me to upload it. Sure. Yeah. And we have an Instagram account, but only because it automatically goes from Facebook. You know? That's it. I'm sorry. I'm not that person. If you if you know anybody Well, it's funny. I just interviewed it came out on Thursday, yesterday.
[01:12:00] Unknown:
It's I'd I'm, a writer. That's what I do for a living for marketing companies. Okay. And I interviewed a a man that I work with, and he talks about digital marketing and for small businesses. So Yeah. So you can listen to that episode. I did. I did listen to it. Oh, you the second one? Yeah. Is oh, the second is the Yeah. Is it,
[01:12:16] Unknown:
Holiday? How do you say it? Colony. Yeah. With Yeah. Yeah. And he was talking about Google and getting set up with Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So he has, he has a lot of good information. I really like gear. Awesome. Yeah. I know somebody that can help you out. Fantastic. Help you out. Yeah. Well, we need somebody that's pro bono right now. Absolutely. You know what I mean? Because we are, we do have a little bit of a budget. We're probably right now, we have the most money in our account that we've had before, which is not much. Yeah. But for us, it is.
But we are, we now have sort of a budget, but then we have to get a generator. Okay. You know? So we're trying to that's where like, for me, that's where my focus is for everything past the budget. I'm just like, nope. We're not we're not paying for that yet. Let's do this. Although, Sarah, who is our the you know, from Mustard Senior Network. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. She's the one that introduced us. She's actually our financial director. Okay. So she's like, Tara, you need to do this, you know, and which is great, which is now that we have the board, we can vote on it and they can say, yes, Tara. We need to spend the money on that. We're going to. And I'll be like, okay. You said it. Let's do it. You know?
But, yeah, she's trying to really get me into, hosting more, and she she's she's phenomenal at it. She's like, I just can't do it because she has so much. She but she has given me a template, but I'm just like, if anybody out there, you know, is interested, you know, we could use some help in in that area and just getting our name out there. We we really have, I feel like a good presence on the Internet that because, like, if you just Google Christian Bookmobile Yeah. I found I found you. It's pretty easy to find. Yeah. You know, because I I talk a lot and I, you know, post and so yeah. Well, hopefully, some people will listen to this and I know. It's awesome. Congratulations on this. This is a really neat idea. I love this. I love this. I was actually one of the podcasts I listened to. It's called No Agenda,
[01:14:12] Unknown:
which I'd recommend to everybody. It's it's just they go through the news and, he was talking about how local media outlets have just been ripped out of everywhere. I mean, there's the Claremont where's the Claremont Sun or something like that? But, there's just a void. You know? Yes. There's not. And like I I told, Sarah in an email, like, I think if you're gonna make a better world, it starts in your backyard. But if you don't know what's going on in your backyard, how you even gonna well, you how do you know where to start? Yes. So that's what I'm I'm hoping to do is just Yes. Because you've listened to one of the episodes. It starts with a little bit of news and then an interview with somebody interesting and then it comes up with it. So that's what I'm hoping, and we'll see if it's successful. I love it because, you know, people like, I know of little places too, you know, and businesses and people like,
[01:15:00] Unknown:
how did you find out about that? You know? And it's either through something that someone's either told me or I've just stumbled upon. So there's a lot out there, I think, that people yeah. And it's so
[01:15:10] Unknown:
I think, again, it's really easy to get wrapped up in what's going on in the country or, like, what, you know, what the big drama is at national level or what whatever the country is talking about or Yeah. But that's not really where things happen. They happen with your neighbors. They happen at council meetings. They happen in in bookmobiles. You know? It's like, that's where life is happening around you. You know? And you've gotta
[01:15:34] Unknown:
participate with that. So Awesome. Great. I've got a recommendation for you now. Oh, good. Yeah. Yeah. Good. Just made me think of it.
[01:15:42] Unknown:
Alright. Well, I'm gonna, I'm gonna call this a a good podcast then. Great. Thanks. And, hopefully, we'll do it again. Yes. Thank you.
[01:15:57] Unknown:
Alright. Well, I really hope you enjoyed that interview with Tara. I really enjoyed talking to her. I think we're gonna have to get her back, just to talk more about, you know, what's what books are in her store, what she's reading, what she'd recommend for adults and kids. And I I think she mentioned, that she's got some good resources for homeschoolers. So, you know, we definitely wanna get her back and just talk to her more about that. But let's, let's talk about some events going on around the county. There's the river history museum opening day and guided tour. That's gonna be this Saturday at 10:30AM at the Chilo River History Museum on County Park Road in Chilo.
They're just gonna celebrate the museum's opening. There's gonna be crafts and activities, and, what I'm particularly interested in is ambassador animals. I don't know what that is. I'm I'm hoping they're well dressed diplomat animals, but I don't I don't think that's the case. In any event, it sounds like it's gonna be a a really fun time. And if you like, oh, you know, wanna learn more about the history of the Ohio River, I would head there on Saturday. There's the heritage craft series woodblock printing that's also on Saturday at 1PM to 03:30PM at the Lion's Tooth Handmade Studio.
And it's a hands on workshop with the artist Liz Marsh, and you get to carve carve and print your own wood blocks. So that sound that also sounds wildly interesting. Then breakfast and birding. We I think we've been talking about breakfast and birding. It was originally set for this Saturday, April 12, but it's been postponed, I'm guessing, due to the flooding, and it's now going to be on Saturday, April 19. And that's gonna be at 521 County Park Road in Chilo, Ohio. And you get to start your day with a hike, some breakfast. I think I read on the website, there's donuts, so who doesn't love donuts? And then you just get a a guided bird watching tour, which sounds great.
I found this really interesting. There's an adventure, evening lecture series, drop in and meet the gear. That is Wednesday, April 16 from 04:30PM to 07:30PM at Clingman Park in Batavia. But you get to learn learn about the park district's free adventure pack and gear loan program. I had no idea that they did this. I mean, adventure gear like that, you know, I'm not a mountaineer or an adventurer by any means, but, you know, I've gone camping before and that stuff isn't isn't cheap. So it's really nice that they have a gear loan program, and at this lecture series, you can just pop in, and it'll kind of cover all the gear that they have and, you know, I suspect how you use it and give you some adventure tips. So, I I might actually try to go go see what they got there on Wednesday.
We've also got flora fauna fun, wildflower walk at Clingman Park. That's, Wednesday the sixteenth. It's gonna be 6PM to 7PM, and it's just a nice walk to look at the first blooms of spring and learn about all the the local wildflowers. And then, you know, again, kind of further out, well, actually, not that far out. It's, the spring native plant sale, and that's gonna be April 26, Saturday, April '20 sixth, and Sunday, May 18 at 10AM to 5PM at the Roe Visitor Center at the Cincinnati Nature Center. And they're just gonna be selling, native herbs and perennials and flowering trees and shrubs so you can stock up on on everything, all your native plants that you need for the garden for your garden this year.
There's the Loveland Food Truck Rally. It's May 10 from 12PM to 8PM at the Shoppers Haven Plaza. It's free. No admission fee. There's gonna be 25 food trucks and beer and wine and live music and and just a general good time. There's also the mustard seed market, which I'm hoping next week, we'll be able to interview the person that, that puts on the mustard seed market. So that'll that'll be fun. And but that, event is May 16 from 4PM to 8PM, May seventeenth from 10AM to 4PM, and May 19 from 10AM to 3PM at the Claremont County Fairgrounds. And like we said before, there's, you know, hundreds of, you know, shops and small businesses. There's live music. There's food.
It's just a really good time. We again, I went, last fall with my family, and it it's just a really great event, and I would highly recommend checking that out, in May. But that's all that's all I've got for you today. Again, please reach out to us. Please tell us what's going on in your backyard. You can get us at info@let'stalkclaremont.com. It's info@let'stalkclaremont.com.
We've been living in sin so long. All
[00:00:21] Unknown:
Okay.
